Your Classic subscription comes with you

Projector Plus honors an App Store subscription bought through Projector Classic in full, Premium included. Here is what moving actually involves — and the one thing to plan around.

Since Projector Plus launched, one question has come in more than every other question combined: do we have to buy it again?

No.

What actually happens

If your church subscribes through Projector Classic on the App Store, that subscription is honored in Projector Plus in full, Premium features included. Open Projector Plus in a browser, sign in with the same Planning Center account, and it comes with you.

There is nothing to repurchase, no price difference, and no deadline. You can stay on the App Store subscription for as long as you like.

What did change, and why it is better

New subscriptions are now bought on the web for your Planning Center organization, and they name the Planning Center user who buys one as the subscription’s manager — rather than tying it to an Apple ID.

That single change fixes the most common support conversation we have had in ten years: some version of “we pay for this, but nobody knows which account it’s on.” The manager is now a person you can find on your own roster, and ownership can move without anyone hunting for a former volunteer’s Apple ID.

If your organization has never had a trial, subscribing on the web includes 30 days free on either plan. Free trial and subscribing walks through it.

The one thing to plan around

Sessions: syncing multiple devices covers hosting, joining, and what to do when a device drops out.

Is Classic going away?

Not today, and not without substantial notice. Classic is still on the App Store, still supported, and still receiving maintenance updates. What has changed is where new work happens: Projector Plus is the app in active development.

We would not wind Classic down without giving subscribers plenty of warning and a clear route across — and that route already exists, because your subscription is honored on the other side of it.

Trying it costs nothing

You do not have to decide anything to look. Open Projector Plus in a browser, sign in, and open last Sunday’s plan. If you subscribe through Classic you will land on Premium; if you do not, you will land on a free tier that can still run a whole service — which is a deliberate choice, not a crippled demo.
