Before you start
True of every WorshipStorm app.
Do I need a Planning Center account?
For the projector apps, yes. Planning Center Services is where your plans, songs and arrangements live — WorshipStorm reads from it rather than asking you to re-enter everything. A Planning Center account is required to run Projector Classic or Projector Plus.
Viewer is the exception. Your congregation does not need a Planning Center account, or any account at all.
Which app should I use?
Projector Plus if you are starting now — it runs in any browser with nothing to install, can be used without a subscription, and pairs with Viewer. Projector Classic if you are already using it and it works; there is no pressure to move.
Viewer is not an alternative to either. It is a companion that puts the live words on your congregation's phones, and it is free.
Do I have to be online the whole time?
Not for either projector. A connection is needed to fetch plans and songs from Planning Center, but both Classic and Plus can present offline once the content is downloaded — in Plus that works on the free tier, and Plus will even start offline on a plan it has already cached. Plus also tells you when you have dropped offline, which Classic does not. Streaming media still needs a live connection.
Viewer is the exception: it keeps every phone in sync with the screen at the front, so it needs a connection throughout.
Projector Plus
The next generation — in your browser now, with iOS and Android apps coming.
What does it cost, and is there a trial?
$6.99/month or $71.99/year — one subscription per Planning Center organization, covering everyone in it.
Buying through Web Billing includes one month free, provided your organization has not already used a trial.
I already subscribe through Projector Classic. Does that carry over?
Yes, in full. App Store subscriptions bought through Projector Classic are honored in Projector Plus, Premium features included. Nothing to migrate and nothing to re-purchase.
You can stay on it indefinitely. Moving to Web Billing is optional — worth it mainly for simpler ownership, below.
What is Web Billing, and why would I prefer it?
A Web Billing subscription is owned by the Planning Center user who buys it. An App Store subscription is owned by the Apple ID that bought it — and that is often not the person who manages your plans. Over the years that mismatch has been our single most common source of support confusion: nobody can remember which Apple ID holds the subscription, and only Apple can move it.
With Web Billing you manage, transfer or cancel it yourself, from the web portal.
What can I do without a subscription?
More than you might expect. Projector Plus presents your plans for free, and opens read-only wherever looking is useful — you can browse plans and songs, look through a song's sequence and slide breaks, and see how a plan item is set up. Mostly it is the actions that change something that are gated. The one screen that does not open at all in free mode is the lyric editor.
The full breakdown is in the Help Center.
Projector Classic
The original, for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
What does it cost?
$6.99/month or $71.99/year through the App Store, after a 30-day free trial. One subscription per organization — every Planning Center user in your org gets access automatically.
Is Classic being discontinued?
Not at this time. Projector Classic is still available on the App Store, still supported, and still getting maintenance updates.
What has changed is where new work happens: Projector Plus is the app in active development, and new features are built there. We would not wind Classic down without giving subscribers substantial notice and a clear route across — and that route already exists, since an App Store subscription bought through Classic is honored in Plus in full.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone, iPad and Mac, with output to any HDMI or AirPlay display. Running in a browser is Plus only, as Android will be.
Viewer
For your congregation. Free.
Does my congregation need to install anything?
No. Viewer runs in the phone's browser. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
How do people join?
You display a QR code and a short session code on screen. Anyone can point their camera at the code and tap the link, or type the code into their browser.
Following along on your phone is written for congregants — it is the page to share.
Does Viewer cost anything?
No. Viewer is free for your whole church and is included with Projector Plus.
