Reading ahead or looking back

Sometimes you want to see what is coming next, or read a line again. Viewer lets you move through the words at your own pace without affecting anyone else.

Nothing you do here changes what anyone else sees. Not the screen at the front, not other people’s phones. It is your phone only.

Moving around

Tap the arrows at the left and right edges of the screen to move back and forward through the song. If you are on a computer, the left and right arrow keys do the same thing.

At the top you will see which part you are on — for example Section 3 / 6.

Getting back to where everyone else is

Once you move on your own, the top of the screen shows a ↩ Return to live button. Tap it and you jump back to whatever is being sung right now.

While you are reading on your own, the service carries on without dragging you along — you will not be yanked to a new page mid-sentence. If the service has moved on since you wandered off, a small dot appears next to the button to let you know.

When it puts you back automatically

Viewer returns you to live on its own in one situation: when the song changes to something new, or the words are updated. At that point where you were reading no longer exists, so it takes you to the current place instead.

When you cannot browse

Reading ahead is available while the service is running. It is not available:

• before you have connected
• while the screen has been cleared and there is nothing to read
• after the session has ended

A note on parts you cannot land on

Some parts of a service have no words — an announcement slide, a video, a blank. Viewer skips over these while you are moving around, so you never end up looking at an empty screen wondering whether something is broken.
